Happy Mother’s Day!

I wanted to take this opportunity to wish all the moms out there a very special day today!

The weather across Alabama has cooperated, with periods of sun and clouds mixed.  Temperatures are warm, with readings nearing the 80 degree mark, especially over the western half of the area.

Some low clouds that formed across the area this morning were beginning to break up into a nice cumulus field over South Central Alabama by the lunch hour.  This trend should continue through the afternoon.

A few storms could form over North Alabama this afternoon, and some of those could brush the North Central counties, from Marion through Winston and Cullman into Etowah and Cherokee. They will have lightning and gusty winds, but will not be severe.

Those storms are associated with a passing upper level disturbance.  As it exits and we lose the heating of the day, the storms will die down and we should settle into a partly cloudy and mild overnight, with lows in the 60s.

Tomorrow will feature fewer clouds, more sun, nearly no chance of rain and temperatures that will warm into the upper 80s to near 90F.  This will signal the beginning of a summer preview that will last through Wednesday of Thursday.  Most spots will get close to or exceed 90F at points this week.
