Our Snowless Streak Continues…
It may never snow in Birmingham ever again. I have come to that conclusion. It has now been two thousand eight hundred and ninety eight days since we have had measurable snow. It has been nearly eight complete years since January 28, 2000 when it snowed three inches.
The top other snowless streaks in Birmingham history since records began in 1895:
2. 2/1/1951 until 3/6/1957…2225 days
3. 2/13/1905 until 12/18/1909…1769 days
4. 2/13/1971 until 12/1/1974…1387 days
5. 1/5/1919 until 2/15/1922…1137 days
6. 2/23/1901 until 1/28/1904…1069 days
There has only been one date with measurable snow in this decade. In the decade of the 1990s, there were ten days with measurable snow. There were twelve days in the 1980s. There were twelve in the decade of the 1970s. In the 1960s, there were eleven days with snowfall. In the 1950s, there were seven with measurable snow. The 1940s saw thirteen days. There were nineteen days with snow in the 1930s. In the 1920s, there were only seven days, but nineteen in the 1910s.
Certainly it will snow again in Birmingham. Just by my writing this, it will probably snow in a week.
