Our summer preview is getting underway with warm temperatures and sizable humidity coming about due to the overall upper air pattern which features a ridge or high pressure system that is going to hold tough for the next week or so.

The forecast has suddenly become one of monotony with the daily forecast of sunshine and warm and humid conditions which include highs mainly in the 90s for the next week. By mid-week it is likely that our highs will be pushing well into the mid 90s and I just would not be surprised to see some locations push into the upper 90s. Keep in mind that these temperatures are about 10 degrees above the 30-year average highs for this time of year which are 84 to 85 degrees.

While the upper ridge retrogrades somewhat in the Tuesday-Wednesday time frame, it is forecast to build back strongly into the eastern US by Friday. The result is a hot and humid forecast. Some forecasts include mention of isolated showers in the Wednesday to Saturday time period, but I’m going to stick my neck out a bit and drop any mention of showers. Should any shower activity occur, it will be very isolated and not worth the mention. QPF forecast supports this with no measurable rain forecast in Central Alabama for the next five days.

While there is little change in the overall weather pattern for the next week, the GFS continues the trend I mentioned yesterday of breaking down the ridge into week 2. I’m a little pessimistic on this simply because of the strength of the upper ridge that we see into next weekend. But I do like the trend that GFS continues of breaking down the ridge in week two. If this happens, the first full week of June could be more seasonal and not quite as hot as the upcoming week and that would be nice. But most veteran viewers here know that the long range stuff is very likely to change.

Thanks for staying tuned to the Weather Xtreme Video. I expect to post the next one tomorrow morning by 8 am or so. We will be on a one-a-day schedule for the upcoming week as I fill in for James Spann who is off to who knows where getting a well deserved week off. I think his wife stole the battery out of his MacBook Pro and hid his iPhone from him to get him completely off the grid!! I hope that this is a wonderful day for you and Godspeed.
