A few afternoon storms?

| June 8, 2011 @ 12:52 pm | 1 Reply

With low-level flow becoming a little more southerly, atmospheric moisture is finally increasing a little over Alabama today.  Thunderstorms broke out over southern Mississippi yesterday, and the cooler, wet ground there could create a boundary for storms to fire on this afternoon over parts of west Alabama and central MS.

There are already some healthy cumulus clouds forming on satellite (and out the window here in Trussville!), and a few of these will likely grow into thunderstorms this afternoon.  Not many…the chance of rain is only about 15% and even that is mainly west of I-65, but anything is better than nothing.

The southerly winds should continue into tomorrow, also, so hopefully we’ll get a few afternoon storms then, too.  With clouds and afternoon storms, high temperatures may be a degree or two cooler in some areas, but the rising humidity levels may make the heat index actually higher.  Continue to remain well-hydrated, make sure anyone you know of that may not have air conditioning has somewhere cool to go, especially between 1 pm and 9 pm.  Buy somebody a window unit if you need to…there are some out there under $100.
