RIGHT NOW: Not much happening this afternoon on radar, quite a contrast to the past two days. We are looking at only a handful of scattered showers over East-Central Alabama with no strong storms. The sky is generally cloudy, and temperatures in the 80s. Seems like sinking motion (subsidence) in the wake of a weak wave rotating around the upper trough just north of here is keeping showers and storms from becoming more widespread today.

TOMORROW THROUGH SUNDAY: Still looks like heat levels will begin to rise over the weekend, with showers and storms becoming more widely spaced as the upper ridge begins to rebuild. Look for a high near 90 tomorrow, followed by low to mid 90s Saturday and Sunday. Expect about 4-6 hours of sun each day, with about 1/2 to 1 hour of rain where showers and storms form. The best chance of a shower or thunderstorm over the weekend will come during the afternoon and evening hours.

NEXT WEEK: Afternoon highs will be generally in the mid 90s… look for partly sunny days, fair nights, and the risk of widely scattered, mostly afternoon and evening showers and storms. Another words, pretty typical summer weather for Alabama.

We note the GFS continues to develop a broad tropical low over the Southwest Gulf of Mexico by the middle of next week….. the model moves it toward the northern coast of Mexico, south of Brownsville, Texas by the end of next week. See the Weather Xtreme video for more long range details.

WEATHER BRAINS: Don’t forget you can listen to our weekly 90 minute netcast anytime on the web, or on iTunes. This is the show all about weather featuring many familiar voices, including our meteorologists here at ABC 33/40.
