THIS AFTERNOON: Showers and storms are actually pretty extensive across the southern half of Alabama this afternoon, and storms are developing over the northern counties as I write this. Temperatures are generally a little below levels we saw at this time yesterday. We will maintain the chance of scattered showers and storms through the evening hours as moisture levels continue to rise.

TOMORROW THROUGH SUNDAY: Again, the new guidance this morning shows no big surprises. Expect partly sunny, hot days and the risk of scattered showers and storms each day, with the best chance coming during the afternoon and evening hours. Highs will be mostly in the low to mid 90s. If you like the numbers game, the chance of any one spot getting wet over the weekend is about one in three.

NEXT WEEK: Still looks a little hotter Tuesday through Thursday with fewer showers and storms. Highs rise into the mid 90s, with upper 90s possible in spots thanks to the stronger upper ridge.

DON HEADED FOR TEXAS: Tropical storm warnings are up for the Texas coast… looks like Don will move into the coast near Corpus Christi tomorrow night, remaining well below hurricane strength. Don is packing sustained winds of only 45 mph this afternoon, and once again the positives should outweigh the negatives as the system has the potential to bring some beneficial rain to much of South Texas over the weekend. Probably offer much help for areas north of I-20, however…

The rest of the Atlantic basin is quiet.

AT THE BEACH: It has been rather wet today along the Central Gulf Coast, but we expect increasing amounts of sunshine tomorrow through Sunday with showers and storms becoming more widely spaced. Highs will be close to 90, and the sea water temperatures along the coast remain in the mid 80s in most spots.

WEATHER BRAINS: Don’t forget you can listen to our weekly 90 minute netcast anytime on the web, or on iTunes. This is the show all about weather featuring many familiar voices, including our meteorologists here at ABC 33/40.
