An all new edition of the ABC 33/40 Weather Xtreme video is available in the player on the right sidebar of the blog. You can subscribe to the Weather Xtreme video on iTunes by clicking here.

TODAY: Alabama’s weather today looks relatively benign; while there is always the risk of a shower or thunderstorm on a summer day around here, the models continue to look relatively dry, and we will mention only an outside risk of any one spot getting wet today. Having said that, we do note a few showers over Central Mississippi this morning that we will keep an eye on. The high today should be in the low 90s with a decent amount of August sunshine.

THE WEEKEND: An unusually strong upper trough for summer will form over the East Coast of the U.S. by Sunday night, driving down a sharp surface boundary that should move through Alabama Sunday. You can almost call this one a “cold front” in that I do believe the weather will be noticeably different Monday and Tuesday. Inevitably, there will be a band of thunderstorms along the front, and it continues to look like the main activity will come tomorrow night into Sunday morning.

SPC has pulled the slight risk back to the northwest a bit, and only the northwest corner of Alabama is involved late tomorrow. Could be a situation where you wake up to rain and some thunder Sunday morning, followed by the sky becoming partly sunny Sunday afternoon.

We reach the low 90s tomorrow, but most places will fail to reach 90 Sunday as the front passes through.

NEXT WEEK: Our weather looks great Monday and Tuesday, with sunny days, lower humidity, and cooler nights. Still have to believe a few of the cooler pockets across Northeast Alabama will visit the upper 50s by daybreak Tuesday. And, the GFS is trending relatively dry even through the latter of the week now.

TROPICS: Two waves in the eastern Atlantic are worth our attention this morning. Be sure and watch the Weather Xtreme video for all of the graphics…

The lead wave should be a storm that ultimately recurves east of the U.S. It will pass north of the Leeward Islands and make the turn to the north early next week.

The second wave is the one to watch; the GFDL brings it into the Caribbean in about 5 days, but we note the GFS in the long range recurves this one as well off the U.S. East Coast with no landfall. But, that is all voodoo at this point.

WEEKEND AT THE BEACH: Routine weather continues along the Central Gulf Coast through the weekend. About 6 to 8 hours of sunshine each day with only widely scattered showers and thunderstorms. The high will be close to 90, and the sea water temperatures remain in the upper 80s from Panama City west to Gulf Shores.

WEATHER BRAINS: Don’t forget you can listen to our weekly 90 minute netcast anytime on the web, or on iTunes. This is the show all about weather featuring many familiar voices, including our meteorologists here at ABC 33/40.
