Franklin Weakens, TD#7 Forms
FRANKLIN: Tropical Storm Franklin began to weaken about as quickly as it formed today, northeast of Bermuda. It was downgraded to tropical depression status tonight. It is heading for the colder waters of the North Atlantic now and will become non-tropical shortly.
GERT?: The disturbance southeast of Bermuda became Tropical Depression #7 tonight and could become Gert in the next 24 hours. It might threaten the island nation of Bermuda, but shouldn’t be a big problem.
HARVEY?: A disturbance midway between the Caribbean and Africa will slowly organize over the next few days and will eventually probably become Harvey. We will have to watch this one, as it should remain far enough south to avoid the effects of troughs to the north and should make it into the Caribbean this week. I have a feeling that this will become the first major hurricane of the year while over the western Caribbean.
Here is the GFS output for early next Sunday morning…
Then I think there is a good chance that it could get into the Gulf of Mexico. Could this be a Middle Texas coast storm eventually? Will it develop at all?
It will be an interesting 7-10 days in the tropical department.
