High Noon in Alabama + Other Notes

No showers or thunderstorms in progress at this hour across Alabama.

However, a (cluster/family) of thunderstorms was over North/Central Mississippi. If they hold on to their movement and do not fade away they will probably eventually move into West/Central Alabama. Lots of lightning with these storms.

Earlier today, the NWS in Memphis issued a Severe Thunderstorm Warning for DeSoto County in NE Mississippi and SW Shelby County in West Tennessee. At that time, the storms were centered over downtown Memphis with continuous cloud-to-ground lightning.

OTHER NOTES

THIS BOTHERS ME: As of earlier this week, there has been 22 times this year that a child was left in a hot car and died of heat stroke. I simply don’t understand. This is above the average for this time of year. Last year, 49 children died in closed hot cars well above the annual average of 38. There has got to be a way those numbers can come way, way down–preferably to zero, of course.

DALLAS/FT. WORTH (DFW Airport): Yes, they are back in the heat business. The official high there yesterday was 104 and they expect 106 this afternoon and again tomorrow.

USA EXTREMES: Hottest yesterday was 114 at Bullhead City, Arizona and lowest this morning was 32 at West Yellowstone, Montana which is the west entrance to Yellowstone National Park.
