Due to the interest around the weather and the future of Lee, I’ve posted an updated Weather Xtreme Video for the afternoon based on the 12Z GFS model run.

A far as Lee goes, there is not much change to the original posting this morning. Lee will get missed by a trough moving through the Great Lakes, but that trough will influence Lee enough to nudge it eastward a little as it dissipates. Lee has actually maintained and improved its look on satellite today but that is not expected to continue as more of the storms circulation gets over land. Lee is likely to retain tropical storm status through tomorrow afternoon before dropping back to a depression.

The big threat from Lee will be rain fall and potential for flooding. Flash flood watches are in effect for a big portion of the Southeast US including all of the northern and central sections of Alabama where 5 to 9 inches of rain is likely to occur over the next 48 hours or so.

The outer band that moved through Alabama this morning was responsible for dropping about a half inch on many locations. My gauge recorded 57 hundredths of an inch. Additional rain is expected tonight through Tuesday with periods of heavy rain possible on Monday and Monday night.

The 12Z GFS run did present one surprise. The tropical system coming into the Gulf in about a week does not come to Alabama but tracks across the Gulf toward Brownsville. That is verging on voodoo country, so I would not be surprised to see that change in future runs.

Don’t forget to listen to our weekly netcast anytime on the web or on iTunes. This is the show all about weather featuring many familiar voices including our meteorologists here at ABC 33/40. You can even listen here on the blog; look for the player on the top left.
