Sixth Wettest Calendar Day?

| September 5, 2011 @ 9:52 pm | 1 Reply

Before today, only seven days had six inches or more of rain in Birmingham history.

LATE REPORT: Looks like total is now 6.94 as of 10 p.m. (pending further review), which could put us in 6th place for calendar day rainfall at Birmingham. No question it is the wettest Labor Day ever…would be interesting to see if it is the coolest, with a high of 75F.

By my calculations, it looks like we have received 6.89 inches through 9:22 p.m. tonight at the Birmingham International Airport. Let’s see what we get in the the record observation in just a minute…and it might put today in 6th place all time as far as calendar day rainfalls go.

That place currently belongs to March 19, 1970, when 6.91 inches fell.

Here are the seven days before today…
