MOSTLY DRY THROUGH WEDNESDAY: The upper trough that kicked off a few showers and storms across Alabama yesterday and last night is now moving on to the east; radar at 5:00 this morning still showed a cluster of showers and storms on the Georgia border east of Roanoke, but the rest of the state is dry, and we don’t expect any showers today or tomorrow.

Afternoons will be warmer with highs in the 87-90 degree range, but nights will stay pleasant with lows in the 60-65 degree range. Moisture will begin to creep upward Wednesday, but we will leave the forecast dry.

THURSDAY/FRIDAY: A cold front will ease into Alabama from the north, and bring some risk of showers and storms to the state on these two days. The rain probably won’t be too heavy or widespread, with rain amounts of 1/2 inch or less for most places. Some evidence the best chance of showers will be south of I-20 by Friday.

WEEKEND PEEK: At this point the weekend looks pretty good with dry and cooler conditions; highs in the low 80s with lows in the upper 50s and low 60s. I guess we could consider some small risk of a shower with the front stalled out just to the south, but for now the risk looks very low.

DOWN TO ONE: The only active tropical system on the board now is Tropical Storm Maria, in the Atlantic. This should become a hurricane soon, and recurve into the open Atlantic well east of the U.S. coast in coming days. The rest of the Atlantic basin, for now, is quiet.

WEATHER BRAINS: Don’t forget you can listen to our weekly 90 minute netcast anytime on the web, or on iTunes. This is the show all about weather featuring many familiar voices, including our meteorologists here at ABC 33/40. Tonight we will be talking about the Rocket City WeatherFest with Elise Schultz from UAH. That weather event will take place in Huntsville next Saturday, September 17th. Also we will feature a visit with Jill Hasling of The Weather Museum from Houston this week. The show beings at 8:30 p.m. CDT, and should be on iTunes and the web by midnight.
