Slow Warming Trend Ahead
An all new edition of the ABC 33/40 Weather Xtreme video is available in the player on the right sidebar of the blog. You can subscribe to the Weather Xtreme video on iTunes by clicking here.
A VERY COMFORTABLE SEPTEMBER DAY: We have a delightful day in progress across Alabama, with sunshine through scattered clouds and temperatures generally in the 70s. Birmingham is reporting 77 degrees at 2:00; one of the cooler spots is Gadsden with 73. Tonight will be mostly fair and cool with a low in the 50s.
WEEKEND FORECAST: Look for a slow warm-up tomorrow and Sunday with a partly sunny sky both days; we should see a high near 80 tomorrow, followed by low 80s Sunday. East Alabama should be a little cooler and West Alabama a little warmer.
FOOTBALL WEATHER: For the high school games tonight, the sky should be mostly fair, with temperatures in the low 70s at kickoff, falling into the 60s by the second half.
Alabama will host North Texas tomorrow night in Tuscaloosa (6:30 p.m. kickoff)… the sky will be mostly fair with a kickoff temperature near 78 degrees. Temperatures will drop into the 60s by the fourth quarter with a light north breeze. Auburn is on the road; they will be at Clemson Saturday for a game that kicks off at 11:00 CDT (on ABC 33/40 TV). The sky will be mostly cloudy with some light rain or drizzle possible during the game. The temperature will rise from near 64 at kickoff into the upper 60s by the final whistle. UAB will host Tulane at Legion Field Saturday at 3:00 p.m… the sky will be partly sunny at kickoff with a temperature in the upper 70s, falling to near 70 by the end of the game. No significant chance of rain.
NEXT WEEK: Watch the Weather Xtreme video and you will see the 12Z GFS is looking a little wetter for Alabama next week with higher moisture levels; in fact we will probably need to mention some risk of showers as early as Monday. The coverage of showers and storms should increase over the latter half of the week thanks to an approaching front, which wants to stall around I-40 in Tennessee.
TROPICS: Hurricane Maria is racing northeast, near the coast of Newfoundland at mid-afternoon. The system will become post-tropical tonight in the North Atlantic, and the rest of the Atlantic basin is very quiet for now.
WEATHER BRAINS: Don’t forget you can listen to our weekly 90 minute netcast anytime on the web, or on iTunes. This is the show all about weather featuring many familiar voices, including our meteorologists here at ABC 33/40.
