An all new edition of the ABC 33/40 Weather Xtreme video is available in the player on the right sidebar of the blog. You can subscribe to the Weather Xtreme video on iTunes by clicking here.

THIS MORNING: Not as cool as recent mornings, but certainly pleasant. Most communities are in the 50s, although Gadsden is down in the mid 40s.

The warming trend continues through tomorrow; we should reach the low 80s this afternoon, with mid 80s likely tomorrow, which should be our warmest day of the week. Friday will be warm and dry with a high somewhere between 80 and 84.

THE WEEKEND: Cooler air should drain into Alabama from the east; the high will drop back into the 77 to 80 degree range Saturday and Sunday with a good supply of sunshine both days as the long dry spell continues.

TROPICAL ISSUES NEXT WEEK? The 18Z GFS introduced the idea of some kind of tropical low forming around the Florida peninsula yesterday, and the 00Z run of the GFS and the ECMWF both suggest a broad tropical system over the eastern Gulf of Mexico by Tuesday of next week. The ECMWF is faster, with the system near Destin/Fort Walton Beach by midday Tuesday; the GFS brings it to the same general area Tuesday night. Both models suggest this could bring our next chance of rain Tuesday or Wednesday, and we will begin to phase in the chance of rain by mid-week. Way too early to be specific, of course, and if the tropical low passes east of here we will be on the dry side. We will watch trends closely…. see the Weather Xtreme video for more details.

PHILIPPE: Our tropical storm over the Atlantic is hanging in there like a rusty fish hook with sustained winds of 65 mph; this could become a minimal hurricane briefly before weakening over the North Atlantic later this week. It is no threat to land.

WEATHER BRAINS: Don’t forget you can listen to our weekly 90 minute netcast anytime on the web, or on iTunes. This is the show all about weather featuring many familiar voices, including our meteorologists here at ABC 33/40. Scroll down for the show notes on the new episode we recorded last night.
