**No Afternoon Weather Xtreme video today…. we will be back on the “two a day” schedule tomorrow**

This afternoon’s discussion is courtesy the Great American Weather Legend, J.B. Elliott….

CAN’T COMPLAIN ABOUT THIS WEATHER: Well, after thinking a moment I guess we could find some fault with it. It is only human nature. For example, it has been well over a week since any measurable rain for most of the state and many areas are beginning to really need some rain. Otherwise, this type of weather is a pleasure for forecasters to deal with. Besides, we are introducing a slight chance of showers starting Sunday night and continuing off and on through the middle of next week. Not a widespread soaking rain, but just some scattered showers. Most of the time there will only be about a 1 in 3 chance. We do want to pay closer attention to a low-pressure system that will be near the western tip of Cuba Sunday morning. By Tuesday, the low may be centered over the east or northeast Gulf of Mexico giving us a slightly better chance of rain, but even then another cool front will be getting in the mix and dropping our high temperatures back into the upper 70s.

WHAT IS GOING ON NOW? That high-pressure area, strong for this early in the season, was sprawled out over the Eastern U.S. this morning from Southeast Canada southward to Alabama, Georgia and Florida. By Saturday morning, the high will be centered over Virginia giving us a more pronounced easterly wind. Some showers may be trying to migrate westward from the east coast of Florida and Coastal Georgia by that time.

FOOTBALL WEATHER: (I see no reason whatsoever to rewrite Jason’s football outlook. It looks good to me and the outlook is generally good for most games, both high school and college. Here is his report.) More nice weather should keep high school games fair, dry and mild tonight and tomorrow night. Temperatures will be pleasant throughout the games; with a mostly clear sky, it will start off in the lower 70s, and temperatures will fall into the middle/upper 60s by the fourth quarter.

On Saturday, Alabama will host Vanderbilt at 6:00 p.m. for the Tide’s homecoming. The sky will be mostly clear, with a kickoff temperature near 76 degrees, falling into the mid 60s by the final whistle. Auburn is on the road; the Tigers take on Arkansas Saturday evening at 6:00 p.m. in Fayetteville, Arkansas. Again, the weather looks great with a clear sky with temperatures falling from near 78 at kickoff into the upper 60s by the end of the game. UAB hosts Mississippi State at Legion Field in Birmingham at 11:00 Saturday morning… expect a sunny sky during the game with temperatures rising from around 74 at kickoff into the upper 70s by the fourth quarter. There is no chance of rain.

USA NOTES: There are more and more signs of a change in season. Even at the north tip of Alaska, Barrow is sporting a fresh coat of snow with 4 inches on the ground and a low temperature of 7 above zero. At midday in Alaska, it was only 19 at Anaktuvuk with a wind chill of 12. Back in the lower 48, the nearest precipitation to Alabama early this afternoon was some snow in the Rockies, especially in Utah and Colorado. Leadville, at an elevation of 10,000 feet in the Colorado Mountains, was reporting light to heavy snow with south wind gusting to 35 mph. Monarch Pass had heavy snow with visibility only 1/4 mile. Meanwhile out on the Plains, it was a warm 76 in Denver with south winds gusting to 48 mph. Undoubtedly, this is going to kick up some dust storms later. Extremes of temperature in the last 24 hours included a high of 95 at Edinburg, Texas Wednesday. The low this morning of 21 at Ely, Nevada and Saranac Lake in Upstate New York.

TROPICAL: There is not much to talk about, but the National Hurricane Center has upgraded Hurricane Philippe, located about 425 miles southeast of Bermuda. That is far away from any threat to the Eastern USA.
