BENIGN WEATHER CONTINUES: We don’t expect much overall change in our weather today and tomorrow, with sunny warm days and fair pleasant nights. Afternoon highs will remain in the 80 to 84 degree range, with the low tomorrow morning in the 50s. Humidity levels will stay low.

THE WEEKEND: Cooler air will slip into the state from the east, so afternoon temperatures will be a little lower with a high somewhere between 77 and 80 Saturday and Sunday; the eastern counties should be cooler. A few scattered clouds will show up, but expect a good supply of sunshine both days.

FOOTBALL WEATHER: Excellent conditions for high school football games tonight and tomorrow night; the sky will be clear with temperatures falling from the mid 70s at kickoff into the 60s by the fourth quarter.

On Saturday, Alabama will host Vanderbilt at 6:00 p.m. for the Tide’s homecoming. The sky will be mostly clear, with a kickoff temperature near 76 degrees, falling into the mid 60s by the final whistle. Auburn is on the road; the Tigers take on Arkansas Saturday evening at 6:00 p.m. in Fayetteville, Arkansas. Again, the weather looks great with a clear sky with temperatures falling from near 78 at kickoff into the upper 60s by the end of the game. UAB hosts Mississippi State at Legion Field in Birmingham at 11:00 Saturday morning… expect a sunny sky during the game with temperatures rising from around 74 at kickoff into the upper 70s by the fourth quarter. There is no chance of rain.

NEXT WEEK: A broad tropical wave is expected to move up into the Southeast U.S. from the Florida peninsula, and we still have model disagreement about the placement of the rain axis with that feature. The GFS remains the drier model, with only some risk of isolated showers Monday, but the ECMWF shows a better chance of showers, mainly Tuesday. One way or another, it looks like the heaviest and most widespread precipitation will remain east of Alabama. We will mention some risk of showers on Tuesday based on the ECMWF.

Later in the week, the 00Z GFS shows a pretty decent cold front passing through Thursday, but with limited moisture it looks like showers will be pretty limited along that front. Then, cooler air arrives by Friday and the following weekend. See the Weather Xtreme video for more long range ideas.

TROPICS: Tropical Storm Philippe is on the journey out to the North Atlantic and will remain far from land.

WEATHER BRAINS: Don’t forget you can listen to our weekly 90 minute netcast anytime on the web, or on iTunes. This is the show all about weather featuring many familiar voices, including our meteorologists here at ABC 33/40.
