THIS AFTERNOON: Light rain continues to fall on East Alabama this afternoon… east of a line from Anniston to Clanton to Selma. The heaviest rain is just north of Montgomery around Prattville at 3:00. The rain is moving to the west/northwest, and some scattered light rain will be possible into West Alabama tonight.

The rain is rotating around a deep upper low southeast of Tallahassee, which is a cold core system, but also producing some issues like a weak tropical storm.

Temperatures are only in the 60s where rain is falling, with 70s elsewhere.

TONIGHT/TOMORROW: Scattered light rain will remain in the forecast tonight and tomorrow, with the most significant amount of rain over East Alabama. And, even there amounts should be on the light side. Totals should vary from about 1/2 inch near the Georgia border, to just a trace over West Alabama.

WEDNESDAY/THURSDAY: Sure looks like these two days will be dry. I guess we might consider a slight risk of a shower Thursday morning with a passing front, but the model runs continue to look dry due to limited moisture and lift. The high should be in the mid 70s Wednesday, followed by upper 70s Thursday.

FRIDAY AND THE WEEKEND: Fantastic fall weather is the story, with sunny pleasant days and clear cool nights. The coolest morning should come early Saturday with upper 40s are likely. Highs will be mostly in the 70s.

NEXT WEEK: The 12Z GFS goes a little bonkers and shows a very deep, phased upper trough passing through here Tuesday, with a healthy round of showers and storms, followed by the coldest air so far this season on Wednesday and Thursday. We won’t buy into this yet since the ECMWF shows nothing even similar. See the Weather Xtreme video for details.

TROPICS: All is quiet across the Atlantic basin and tropical storm formation is not expected through the week.

WEATHER BRAINS: Don’t forget you can listen to our weekly 90 minute netcast anytime on the web, or on iTunes.
