DRIZZLY DAY: Clouds, light rain, and drizzle are the story across the northern half of Alabama this afternoon with temperatures mostly in the 60s. Birmingham reports only 63 degrees at mid-afternoon, which is well below the average high of 77 for October 11.

The drizzle should end this evening as the surface low moves north up the Atlantic coast. Looks like the clouds will hang tough overnight and into tomorrow morning, however. The sky should begin to clear tomorrow afternoon as drier air works into the state. I guess we might consider a small risk of a shower tomorrow, but most places should be dry.

THURSDAY: A cold front will pass through on Thursday, and the models are a little more bullish on the prospects of a shower or storm along the front, especially the NAM. In fact, the NAM is printing almost 1/2 inch of rain for Birmingham Thursday with some potential for thunder. So, we will mention the chance of a passing shower or storm Thursday with a mix of sun and clouds.

FRIDAY AND THE WEEKEND: Fantastic fall weather is the story, with sunny pleasant days and clear cool nights. Highs Friday and Saturday will be in the 70s, and it looks like we drop into the upper 40s early Saturday and Sunday morning. The high Sunday afternoon will be close to 80 as we warm up a bit. Yet another great weekend for football or anything else.

NEXT WEEK: While we stay dry Monday, a full latitude upper trough is expected to push a strong cold front through here Tuesday, with a chance of showers and thunderstorms, followed by what could very well be the coolest air so far this season by Wednesday and Thursday. We will have to watch for frost potential early Thursday morning when lows could go into the 30s. See the Weather Xtreme video for more details.

TROPICS: While the East Pacific is pretty active, the Atlantic basin is very, very quiet.

WEATHER BRAINS: Don’t forget you can listen to our weekly 90 minute netcast anytime on the web, or on iTunes. This is the show all about weather featuring many familiar voices, including our meteorologists here at ABC 33/40.
