An all new edition of the ABC 33/40 Weather Xtreme video is available in the player on the right sidebar of the blog. You can subscribe to the Weather Xtreme video on iTunes by clicking here.

DRY AIR STAYS IN PLACE: Again we are starting the day with temperatures mostly in the 30s across Alabama, but the dry air will heat very effectively, and we should rise to near 70 degrees today with a good supply of sunshine. Pretty much the same story tomorrow… just delightful weather to begin the new month of November.

SHOWERS ON THURSDAY: An upper trough will bring the risk of showers to Alabama on Thursday, but with very limited moisture rain amounts will be pretty light, generally under 1/4 inch. Some places might not get enough rain to measure, so our long dry spell continues. Keep in mind the rain total for the entire month of October was only 0.36″; the last time we had a day with more than a quarter inch of rain was way back on September 20 when we were soaked with 3.49″.

FRIDAY THROUGH THE WEEKEND: The sky becomes sunny on Friday as dry air moves back into the state; the weather will be a little cooler with a high in the low to mid 60s. Saturday promises to be another great weekend kickoff, with a good supply of sunshine and a high in the low 70s. Sunday will be mostly dry, although we might consider mentioning a small risk of a shower late in the day or Sunday night with a weak front approaching from the northwest. A 5880 meter 500 mb ridge nosing in here from the Gulf should prevent rain from becoming widespread.

NEXT WEEK: Looks like the next decent chance of showers and storms could very well come on Wednesday; see the Weather Xtreme video for more long range ideas.

TROPICS: All remains quiet across the Atlantic basin… major hurricanes are very rare this late in the season, and if significant tropical storms form, they are usually deep in the tropics far from here. The season officially ends at the end of November.

WEATHER BRAINS: Don’t forget you can listen to our weekly 90 minute netcast anytime on the web, or on iTunes. This is the show all about weather featuring many familiar voices, including our meteorologists here at ABC 33/40. Scroll down for the show notes on this week’s new episode.
