Showers Return To Alabama Tomorrow

RIGHT NOW: The sky is sunny over Alabama this afternoon with temperatures generally in the 67-71 degree range. We note lots of smoke and haze over the southern part of the Birmingham metro this afternoon… seems like some of that is coming from a large, controlled outdoor burn down in Coosa County.
To the west, snow continues to fall over the western half of Kansas thanks to a strong short wave that will impact Alabama tomorrow. Clouds will begin to move into the state late tonight.
THURSDAY SHOWERS: Still looks like a relatively light rain event tomorrow despite the strength of the wave coming in. The 12Z NAM is printing 0.23″ for Birmingham, while the GFS 0.27″. There is a sliver of positive CAPE during the day, so somebody might hear some thunder, but with limited moisture and instability we probably won’t see too many thunderstorms. The main window for the showers will be from around 12:00 noon to 8:00 p.m… see the Weather Xtreme video for more specifics on timing.
FRIDAY AND THE WEEKEND: Dry air takes over Friday with sunshine returning along with a high in the mid 60s. The weekend still looks delightful, with sunny pleasant days and clear cool nights. We will have to watch for signs of cold air damming (the wedge) bringing in cooler air over the eastern counties of the state; for now we will mention highs in the 65-70 degree range both Saturday and Sunday, with the warmer readings over the western counties.
ALABAMA-LSU: What a great night for the big game at Bryant-Denny Stadium in Tuscaloosa. The sky will be clear, with temperatures falling from the mid 60s at kickoff, into the upper 50s by the fourth quarter. The wind will be out of the south at 6-12 mph. And, for the tailgaters, the day will be sunny with a high close to 70 degrees. Doesn’t get much better.
NEXT WEEK: The GFS is now in good agreement with the ECMWF, bringing in a rather robust system on Wednesday of next week (one week from today). We will have to monitor that one for possible severe weather potential in coming days. See the Weather Xtreme video for more details.
STORM ALERT XTREME: Our annual storm spotter training is coming up on Saturday, November 12 at the BJCC, as part of the Alabama International Auto show. We begin at 9:00, and you will be done at 2:00. And, as a “thank you”, you will get free admission into the car show. There is no cost, and no need to register, just show up. Brian Peters will be the trainer, and we ask all existing and potential Skywatchers to attend. See you there!
CONNECT: You can find me on all of the major social networks…
