RIGHT NOW: While light rain continues over parts of East Alabama, the sky has cleared rapidly over the northwest counties of the state following a cold front that is passing through. Ahead of the front, temperatures are in the 70s over South Alabama, but readings are in the 60s behind the front.

COLDER TOMORROW: We expect a high only in the upper 50s tomorrow with a cool north breeze, but the sky should be sunny throughout the day. Friday morning will be cold with a light freeze likely for most places; the colder spots have a good chance of reaching the 20s. We warm to near 60 degrees by Friday afternoon.

OUR WEEKEND: Another cold morning early Saturday with lows mostly in the 30-35 degree range, but we begin to warm up nicely Saturday with a high in the mid 60s along with a good supply of sunshine. Sunday will be warmer; partly sunny with a high close to 70.

NEXT WEEK: Low level moisture returns Monday with some risk of isolated showers; showers and a few storms look more likely Tuesday with the approach of a surface front and an upper trough. The 12Z GFS is clearly faster with this system, as the sky clears and we turn colder Wednesday. Still doesn’t look like a setup for severe weather… see the Weather Xtreme video for details.

NW GEORGIA QUAKE: A small earthquake was centered this morning near Dalton, Georgia; only magnitude 2.7. Quakes are fairly common in this region.

SEAN: The tropical storm northeast of the Bahamas in the Atlantic will be picked up by the approaching upper trough and carried out into the North Atlantic this weekend… the rest of the Atlantic basin is quiet.

STORM ALERT XTREME: Our annual storm spotter training is coming up on Saturday, November 12 at the BJCC, as part of the Alabama International Auto show. We begin at 9:00, and you will be done at 2:00. And, as a “thank you”, you will get free admission into the car show. There is no cost, and no need to register, just show up. Brian Peters will be the trainer, and we ask all existing and potential Skywatchers to attend. See you there!

WEATHER BRAINS: Don’t forget you can listen to our weekly 90 minute netcast anytime on the web, or on iTunes. This is the show all about weather featuring many familiar voices, including our meteorologists here at ABC 33/40.

I had a great time today seeing the pre-schoolers at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church in Mountain Brook… be looking for them on the Pepsi KIDCAM today at 5:00 on ABC 33/40 News. The next Weather Xtreme video will be posted here by 7:00 a.m. tomorrow…
