Alabama 811 | Know What's Below.

Our Coldest Morning

| December 1, 2011 @ 10:15 am

In fact below freezing over most of the state even into the Mobile-Dothan areas. Here is a list:

19 Southwest Lamar County (west of Millport)
21 Haleyville, Russellville, Valley Head, Black Creek, Cottondale, Cedar Bluff (Weiss Lake)
22 Troy, Munford
23 Pinson
24 Muscle Shoals, Anniston, Coker, Alabaster
25 Decatur, Gadsden, Birmingham, Eufaula, Scottsboro Airport
26 Huntsville, Tuscaloosa, Montgomery, Cullman Airport
27 Calera (NWS Office), Evergreen
28 Greenville, Auburn, Mobile, Dothan

For much of the state this essentially ended the growing season. Timely also because today is the first day of winter as far as weather people are concerned. We consider Winter as December, January and February.

HOW HARSH AND COLD WILL THIS WINTER BE?
I don’t know.
My little puppies don’t know and don’tcare
My neighbor, don’t know.
Friends at the other end of the block don’t know.
We will have to wait and see.
The NOAA seasonal outlook mentions a mild winter all across the South from the Atlantic to the Pacific.
And very tough and cold winter all across the Northland.

Not sure they know. Maybe the only one that knows is Mother Nature but her phone is off the hook this morning.

USA EXTREMES
Warmest yesterday, 82 Borrego, Calif.
Coldest this morning (not counting Alaska) 4 above at Butte, Mont.
