Warmer Trend Rolls Along

THIS AFTERNOON: Temperatures are right at forecast levels this afternoon; mostly in the upper 50s with a cloudless sky. Dewpoints remain very low, so tonight will be cold again with a light freeze for most places, but not as cold as last night.

TOMORROW/SATURDAY: The warm-up continues, with a high in the low 60s tomorrow, follow by mid 60s Saturday. The air stays dry and the sky will be sunny both days. Just beautiful early December weather.

Clouds return Sunday ahead of the next storm system to the west, but it is a very slow mover as the front will be parallel to the upper air winds, and the rain should stay west of Alabama, with heavy rain developing Sunday from Memphis down to Shreveport. The high will be in the mid 60s Sunday afternoon.

NEXT WEEK: The weather turns wet early in the week, with rain slowly advancing into the state from the northwest. Rain is likely statewide Monday night into Tuesday, and we turn colder. Looks like we hold in the 40s all day Tuesday with periods of rain, making for a raw day. Then, look for slow clearing Wednesday after some risk of morning drizzle or flurries. The high will stay in the 40s Wednesday, but the weather turns brighter and warmer by Thursday and Friday of next week. See the Weather Xtreme video for details.

LONG RANGE: The positive NAO spike sure seems to suggest the coldest air in the continental U.S. will be over the western states through mid to late month.

WEATHER BRAINS: Don’t forget you can listen to our weekly 90 minute netcast anytime on the web, or on iTunes. This is the show all about weather featuring many familiar voices, including our meteorologists here at ABC 33/40.
