A NICE WARM-UP TODAY: Again this morning most Alabama communities are below freezing, but the dry air will warm quickly today, and we will hit the low to mid 60s this afternoon with a cloudless sky.

THE WEEKEND: Look for similar weather tomorrow…a sunny sky with a high in the mid 60s. Then, on Sunday, clouds will increase ahead of the next storm system to the west, but we stay dry with a high in the 60s once again.

NEXT WEEK: A slow moving storm system will bring rain back to Alabama, and the most widespread rain, most likely, will come Monday night into Tuesday. But, rain should move into Northwest Alabama during the day Monday, and due to the slow moving nature of the system, some heavy rain is likely up around Muscle Shoals. In fact, the guys at HPC suggest 5 inches of rain are possible up there, with storm totals down this way in the 1-3 inch range. The amounts will be heavier north and west of Birmingham, and lighter to the south and east.

There might be a thunderstorm or two Monday or Monday night, but we don’t expect any severe weather. Then, we turn cold Tuesday as the rain becomes widespread. We hold in the 40s all day Tuesday, making for a raw winter day. The rain should move out of the state Wednesday, but I don’t expect much sunshine and highs hold in the 40s. Then, the weather will be brighter and warmer by Thursday and Friday. See the Weather Xtreme video for details on the rain event next week.

THE LAND OF VOODOO: Still looking at a positive NAO situation for mid to late month, which means temperatures around here probably will be a little above average as we approach Christmas. There can be cold snaps, but usually in this setup they don’t last long and aren’t too severe.

WEATHER BRAINS: Don’t forget you can listen to our weekly 90 minute netcast anytime on the web, or on iTunes. This is the show all about weather featuring many familiar voices, including our meteorologists here at ABC 33/40.
