Tornado Warnings in east Mississippi

As James mentioned, a Tornado Watch is now in effect for about the southern half of Alabama, south of a line from Moundville to Eufaula.

However, a supercell storm has formed in eastern Mississippi, and a tornado warning is in effect for Noxubee County (storm is approaching Macon, MS). This storm seems to be along a miniature warm front that stretches from east Mississippi to near Prattville, and this may be enhancing its rotation. It shows a hook echo and strong evidence of rotation. If it holds together, a tornado warning may be required for Pickens County, Alabama. We’ll see.

Even with very low dewpoints, sunshine is warming temperatures into the 70s across central and south Alabama. Very cold temperatures aloft are making up for the lower dewpoints, so some of these storms will likely make it into parts of central and south Alabama. Still, this event does not look as bad as last Tuesday.
