2012 Starts Cold

| December 28, 2011 @ 8:07 am

I am on “vacation” this week, and Brian is working the TV morning shift at ABC 33/40, so his posts are coming pretty late. Please be patient as we try and spend a few days generally off the grid. I am about to head to ski country in West Virginia with a church youth group, which will be interesting since I don’t know anything about snow skiing.

Just one graphic to share as I am enjoying some coffee after sleeping EIGHT hours…

This is the ECMWF valid late Monday night of next week. Bottom line and the screaming message is that we warm up nicely through the weekend, and turn much, much colder early next week as 2012 arrives. We hit the mid 60s Friday through Sunday, but this output suggests highs in the 30s and lows in the teens if correct. Of course, the GFS is still in lala land, but seems to be catching up.

If you have a smart phone app that is telling you highs will be in the 50s and lows in the 30s early next week, it is clueless. Probably 20 degrees too warm.

The good news is that it looks like the cold snap won’t last very long, and the snow fans won’t like to hear that it looks dry for now. Again, stay tuned for more from Brian later…
