Chilly start to the day with temperatures across Central Alabama running from the upper 20s to lower 30s. Some patchy fog also formed this morning thanks to all the rain over the last couple of days. Most of the fog should burn off quickly paving the way for a wonderfully sunny but cool day with a high only expected to reach the lower 50s. Chilly again tonight with lows dipping back to about 30 with some frost. Thursday will stay cool with a high again in the lower 50s. But after that we wee a warm up occur that will take use to highs in the lower 60s by the last couple of days of 2011.

In the upper atmosphere, the troughiness takes hold over the eastern half of the country. But the pattern flattens just a bit for the Southeast US allowing a nice but gradual warming trend through the last of December.

A strong trough with a front will come through on January 1st, but I think there will only be enough moisture for some clouds. Any rain would be very light. That front will bring another round of chillier air dropping highs back into the lower 50s and lows back to the freezing mark.

Voodoo country continued to show a lack of any major weather system. The winter weather potential has fallen off substantially with perhaps a round of some light rain around the 7th with only a minor chill down after that.
