Storms Remain Below Severe Limits

| January 11, 2012 @ 1:15 am

Some noisy thunderstorms continue across West Alabama this morning… the heavier ones are producing lots of lightning and heavy rain. We have had a report of penny sized hail in McCalla west of Birmingham.

The good news is that there is no real surface based instability this morning… otherwise we could be having some issues since the shear values are quite high as the upper low approaches from the west. Seems like the best risk of really organized severe weather later this morning will be over Southeast Alabama… especially east of I-65 and south of I-85. we will keep watching.
