Soaking Rain

| January 26, 2012 @ 11:19 am

Widespread, soaking rain continues over the western half of the state late this morning, with amounts over 1 inch in most spots. The rain will move steadily east during the afternoon; sure looks like some spots will wind up with 2 to 3 inches of rain before it is all over. The NWS in Birmingham has issued aerial flood advisories for a number of counties.

SEVERE THREAT: Tuscaloosa and Birmingham are NOT in the tornado watch. The greatest risk of severe weather remains over South Alabama where the air is more unstable. The NWS Mobile has just issued a tornado warning for parts of Mobile and Baldwin Counties…

Bottom line is the main risk for North Alabama for the rest of the day will be heavy rain and possible flooding, with isolated severe storms down over South Alabama.
