WET AT TIMES: A short wave will bring showers back to Alabama today. Nothing really heavy, and no severe weather. Probably not much thunder. Rain amounts should be well under 1/2 inch for most locations, and the rain will get out of here tonight. Just keep the umbrella handy today. The weather stays mild with a high in the 60s.

TOMORROW/FRIDAY: Morning clouds should give way to some afternoon sun tomorrow, and we warm to 70 degrees in most places. That is fifteen degrees above average for early February in Alabama. Friday should be just as warm, but the sky will be generally cloudy, and it looks like we will need to introduce a chance of showers Friday afternoon and Friday night as an upper low sets up northwest of the state.

UNSETTLED WEEKEND: We will forecast a chance of showers and thunderstorms on Saturday as we kick off the weekend. I doubt if it rains all day, but it could rain at any time during the day. Severe weather looks unlikely with limited dynamics, and we stay mild with a high in the upper 60s. A moisture axis will stay in place Sunday with showers possible during the day as well.

NEXT WEEK: Now the GFS is trending wetter on Monday like the ECMWF, so we will keep the chance of showers going into Monday as the unsettled pattern continues thanks to the slow moving upper low northwest of here. Finally, drier and somewhat cooler slips into the state Tuesday and Wednesday.

THE LAND OF VOODOO: Still no sign of any long lasting cold snaps, snow, or ice issues for Alabama through mid-February. See the Weather Xtreme video for more details on long range ideas.

GOODBYE JANUARY: Very interesting to note that we saw a high of 60 degrees or warmer on 19 days during the month of January, and the warmth peaked on January 25 when the high was a balmy 75 degrees. Coldest morning was January 4 when we dropped to 22. The rain for the month, based on data from the Birmingham Airport, was 5.87″.

WELCOME TO FEBRUARY: The warmest temperature recorded during the month is 83 degrees, set on February 8, 1918, February 13, 1962, and February 23, 1996. Coldest is 13 degrees below zero, set on February 13, 1899. The average rain for the month is 4.38″.
