Mild And Unsettled Weather

RIGHT NOW: Most of the rain for now has moved into Georgia as of mid-afternoon. Rain amounts across the state from the morning are generally in the 1/2 inch range.

TO THE WEST: Strong to severe storms have flared up over Arkansas, where a severe thunderstorm watch is in effect. Some of these could work their way into Alabama tonight, but they should weaken greatly by the time they reach our state. Any showers or storms that do make it in here tonight should dissipate, or move to the east soon after midnight.

TOMORROW: Morning clouds will give way to some sunshine by afternoon. The weather stays very mild for early February with a high in the 67-70 degree range.

FRIDAY AND THE WEEKEND: The weather will be wet at times. Clouds thicken tomorrow night, and a few showers could develop during the day Friday, becoming more likely Friday night. Then, we will forecast a decent chance of showers and thunderstorms on Saturday as an upper low sets up shop over the nation’s mid-section. Showers will linger Sunday as a moisture axis remains over the state. The rain over the weekend won’t be continuous, but it could rain at any time. The good news is that we don’t expect any significant risk of severe weather, and rain amounts will be around 1/2 inch, not enough for flooding issues.

NEXT WEEK: The GFS remains dry, and the ECMWF remains wet for Monday. We will side with the wetter solution for now on Monday and maintain a chance of showers statewide. Then, drier and somewhat cooler air slips in here Tuesday and Wednesday.

And, out into the land of voodoo, still no sign of any seriously cold air or winter weather mischief through mid- February. See the Weather Xtreme video for all the details.

WEATHER BRAINS: Don’t forget you can listen to our weekly 90 minute netcast anytime on the web, or on iTunes. This is the show all about weather featuring many familiar voices, including our meteorologists here at ABC 33/40.
