Weekend Showers Ahead

| February 2, 2012 @ 2:39 pm

**No afternoon Weather Xtreme video today due to travel**

STORM ALERT 2012: I will be in Tuscaloosa tonight for the first stop on our annual weather tour… the show will be at Central High School, and it begins at 6:30. It promises to be a very special night as we look back at the April 27, 2011 tornado outbreak that killed 252 people in Alabama. Be sure and get there early for a good seat…

TOMORROW AND THE WEEKEND: No doubt we will need to continue to mention a chance of showers and storms over the weekend, but we note the 12Z GFS is a little drier; it is printing only 0.29″ for Birmingham through 60 hours. The NAM is actually similar with 0.37″, so there is some optimism that at least part of the weekend will be dry. Maybe even a few decent peeks of sun along the way.

Clouds will increase tomorrow, and a few showers are possible late tomorrow and tomorrow night. Then, showers and storms are more likely Saturday with the big storm over the Central Plains getting a bit closer.

The GFS is suggesting that much of the day Sunday will be dry, but for the moment I think we need to keep a least a chance of showers going. The 12Z run is also dry for Monday and Tuesday… we will adjust the forecast later as needed.

See the morning Weather Xtreme video for all the graphics and details.

WEATHER BRAINS: Don’t forget you can listen to our weekly 90 minute netcast anytime on the web, or on iTunes. This is the show all about weather featuring many familiar voices, including our meteorologists here at ABC 33/40.
