An all new edition of the ABC 33/40 Weather Xtreme video is available in the player on the right sidebar of the blog. You can subscribe to the Weather Xtreme video on iTunes by clicking here.

THIS AFTERNOON: Rain continues to expand northward across Alabama this afternoon. Rain was falling south of a line from Hamilton to Jasper to Birmingham to Ashland at mid-afternoon, and periods of rain will continue tonight. Temperatures are mostly in the 60s this afternoon with a cloudy sky statewide.

THE WEEKEND: Occasional showers are likely tomorrow, but the most widespread rain could very well come tomorrow night, when some thunderstorms could be involved. I don’t think it rains all day tomorrow, but it could rain at any time, so be prepared if you have something planned outdoors.

Severe weather is not expected, and rain amounts of 1/2 to 1 inch seem likely.

The rain will end early in the day Sunday, and we could very well see some sunshine by Sunday afternoon as drier air begins to work into the state. Look for a high in the 67-70 degree range tomorrow, followed by low 60s on Sunday.

NEXT WEEK: The first half of the week is looking mostly dry. The high will be pretty close to 60 degrees Monday through Wednesday, with a partly to mostly sunny sky each day. The GFS stays dry Wednesday but the ECMWF shows some risk of showers. Even more model madness late in the week; Friday the GFS looks mild and wet, but the ECMWF is dry with very cold air dropping into the state from the north. Needless to say, confidence in any specific solution is low. See the Weather Xtreme video for the graphics and details…

WEATHER BRAINS: Don’t forget you can listen to our weekly 90 minute netcast anytime on the web, or on iTunes. This is the show all about weather featuring many familiar voices, including our meteorologists here at ABC 33/40.
