Dry Days Ahead

THIS AFTERNOON: With a partly sunny sky, temperatures are generally in the 55-65 degree range this afternoon across the great state of Alabama. Nothing is showing up on radar, and it looks like a nice, extended stretch of dry weather in the days ahead.

REST OF THE WEEK: Not much change tomorrow and Wednesday. The sky will stay partly sunny both days, with afternoon highs in the low 60s.

A surge of cooler air moves in here Wednesday night, and Thursday promises to be a sunny and cool day with a high in the mid 50s. We will be close to freezing at daybreak Friday, and Friday remains sunny and cool with a high somewhere in the 50s.

OUR WEEKEND: Colder air should drop into Alabama Saturday and Sunday. The 12Z global model runs are slightly warmer, but on one, or maybe even both days, North Alabama could have a hard time getting our of the 40s. And, we should be below freezing at daybreak Sunday with lows in the 20s. The GFS from time to time has shown a feature in the Gulf of Mexico that tries to bring up a little light rain into South Alabama, and there is some hint of that on the 12Z run, but the air sure looks dry and we won’t mention any chance of precipitation at this point over the weekend.

NEXT WEEK AND BEYOND: Still waiting and watching for the late season cold snap and winter weather mischief that many of us believe will be possible… the 12Z GFS shows a very dynamic system impacting Alabama on February 17, followed by much colder air, but that is out in the land of voodoo. See the Weather Xtreme video for long range ideas and graphics.

WEATHER BRAINS: Don’t forget you can listen to our weekly 90 minute netcast anytime on the web, or on iTunes. This is the show all about weather featuring many familiar voices, including our meteorologists here at ABC 33/40. We will record this week’s episode tonight at 8:30 p.m. CST… our guest this week is Andrea Butera of The Weather Channel… Kory Hartman will also be on to discuss the tragic death of storm chaser Andy Gabrielson over the weekend. You can listen to the show live via uStream… or later via iTunes, Stitcher, or the web.
