Much Warmer Tomorrow

THIS AFTERNOON: As expected, low clouds are hanging tough over Alabama this afternoon, with temperatures around the 50 degree mark in most places. The sky has cleared over far Southwest Alabama, and that clearing should work it’s way northward slowly tonight.

WARMER TOMORROW: Tomorrow will be dry day and noticeably warmer. We reach the upper 60s with a mix of sun and clouds… more like spring.

MINIMAL SEVERE WEATHER RISK: SPC has removed Alabama from the Day Two Convective Outlook… we totally agree with that because models continue to show basically little to no surface based instability late tomorrow night and early Thursday morning. In fact, a number of the storms around here will most likely be elevated, meaning only a very minimal severe weather risk. The main window for showers and storms with our next system will come from about 12:00 midnight tomorrow night to about 9:00 a.m. Thursday. Rain amounts of 1/2 inch are likely, with isolated amounts to one inch.

The sun might even break out a bit Thursday afternoon after the storms pass, with a high Thursday afternoon near 70 degrees. Not bad considering we saw lows between 12 and 22 this past weekend.

Friday looks like a nice day, with ample sunshine and a high in the low 60s.

WEEKEND PEEK: A surface low will move through the northern Gulf of Mexico, and spread rain into Alabama this weekend. The 12Z model runs are in better agreement; looks like the best chance of rain will come Saturday afternoon into Saturday night, with the rain moving out early Sunday. The heavier totals should be over South Alabama, but rain is likely almost up to the Tennessee border as well.

Drier air returns early next week for Monday and Tuesday with highs around 60. See the Weather Xtreme video for more long range ideas and all the graphics.

WEATHER BRAINS: Don’t forget you can listen to our weekly 90 minute netcast anytime on the web, or on iTunes. This is the show all about weather featuring many familiar voices, including our meteorologists here at ABC 33/40. Scroll down for the show notes on the new episode we recorded last night.
