Da Rain Closing In ! !

| February 18, 2012 @ 10:16 am

Morning balloon run data is in, and the sounding from Birmingham showed two dry layers aloft, one centered around 800 millibars (about 4,000 feet) and one around 550 millibars (about 17,000 feet). Both of these are likely to be wiped out by the rain moving into the area, but initially they will evaporate some of the rain along the leading edge of the rain area.

Radar showed light to moderate rain over Southwest Alabama moving steadily toward the Montgomery area. Further to the west, rain covered the southern half of Mississippi and nearly all of Louisiana with the exception of the southeast corner of that state.

Flash flood watches were in effect for today and tonight for much of eastern Texas, nearly all of Louisiana, and the southern half of Alabama and Mississippi. In addition to the threat of heavy rain for those areas, SPC had issued a Tornado Watch for Southeast Louisiana and the coastal counties of Mississippi. There had not been a change to the Day 1 Outlook though a new one is due out shortly.

Several tornado warnings had been issued for parishes just west and southwest of Baton Rouge, LA.

PS I, too, know a little about the English language. The title of the morning Weather Xtreme Video was intended to be a play off an old saying from years ago about “here comes da judge!” I’m simply continuing that play off that saying with the title of this update.
