Spotty light rain will continue for much of the northern half of Alabama for this morning until we can get the upper trough to edge by probably by mid afternoon. That should bring an end to the patchy rain, but I expect the clouds to remain entrenched until clearing occurs during the early morning hours Monday. And don’t look for much change in temperatures today with most places remaining steady or going up a couple of degrees.

Monday should see the return of sunshine as we come under an upper ridge. But we’ll start out chilly with lows getting down to the freezing mark and slightly below. Temperatures will recover nicely with the sunshine allowing highs to reach about 60.

The upper air pattern remains very progressive, so don’t look for any extended periods without rain for a while. Rain chances return late Tuesday and into Wednesday with the passage of an disturbance moving through the Ohio River Valley. Then another deeper trough moves through the Mississippi River Valley on Friday that promises an end to the rain for the weekend, but it will also bring some colder air into the eastern half of the country. Lows for Central Alabama will once again get down to near the freezing mark with highs in the 50s. Not too terribly cold, but somewhat below the unseasonably mild weather we’ve been seeing.

Rainfall is likely to be somewhat light for each of the upcoming events. The GFS is less aggressive with rainfall on the Friday system then the European is. Timing differences also exist with the European a trifle faster with the Friday system by about 6 hours or so. The GFS is slightly colder, too, with the 540 thickness contour a bit further south than the European.

Further afield, the pattern remains pretty progressive with another wet system around March 3rd and again late on the 5th. Still no big signs of any significant cold as winter draws closer to its end. And the start to daylight savings time is only about three weeks away.
