Looks like the weather pattern for the US remains quite active over the next couple of weeks with a continuous parade of traveling storm system giving us rain and storm possibilities about every three days or so.

But for today, look for some really nice weather after a chilly start to the day with lows dropping into the upper 20s for many locations, and nearly all of Central Alabama below freezing once again. But with sunshine today we should climb into the middle 50s for highs. Sunday should follow with another great day and slightly warmer conditions as the surface high moseys across the Southeast US becoming centered over the Outer Banks. We’ll drop to near freezing for lows Sunday but surge into the lower 60s for highs.

Monday becomes even milder as we begin to transition for another round of wet weather Tuesday into Wednesday. A strong trough digs into the western US and comes out of the middle Rockies on Tuesday with a surface low coming across Nebraska. Down our way, we should see a warm front move northward with the potential for some isolated showers as moisture increases ahead of this system.

Tuesday evening into Wednesday the front approaches as the surface low moves into the Great Lakes region. The rain should move out by Wednesday afternoon with an upper ridge providing a good day for Thursday with temperatures dropping back somewhat with lows around 48 and highs around 67.

But the good weather is short-lived with another strong trough forecast to come out of the Rockies Friday into Saturday bringing another round of stormy weather with a strong contrast in temperature across the front as cold air dives into the Southern US once again. I think there is some potential for severe weather with this system, too, so we’ll need to watch the evolution of this in future model runs. This run suggests storms for early on Saturday, just in time for the Southeast Severe Weather Symposium at Mississippi State University in Starkeville.

Interesting to note that the ECMWF is in good agreement with the GFS, so watch the video for details on model comparisons.

Long range forecasts maintain the progressive pattern as the series of storm systems just keeps on coming with new weather systems every three days or so. No rest with this kind of pattern.

Thursday was the first meeting of the Integrated Warning Team for Central Alabama. It was great to get together with so many of the players in the warning process. I really hope we’ll see some good come out of this initial beginning. I expect to have the next Weather Xtreme Video posted by 8 am or so on Sunday morning. If you are local to us, be sure to catch the news and weather on ABC 3340 at 6 and 10 pm as I fill in for Ashley Brand this weekend. Enjoy the day and Godspeed.
