Much Cooler Today; Brighter/Warmer Weekend Ahead

| March 9, 2012 @ 5:54 am

An all new edition of the ABC 33/40 Weather Xtreme video is available in the player on the right sidebar of the blog. You can subscribe to the Weather Xtreme video on iTunes by clicking here.

COOL DOWN: A cold front is pushing down into South Alabama early this morning, and the rain has already ended north of I-20. Clouds will linger for much of the day, although we might begin to see some sunshine over the Tennessee Valley of North Alabama this afternoon. Temperatures will be about 20 degrees cooler than yesterday, with a high in the upper 50s for most spots along with a cool north breeze.

NICE WEEKEND: The sky will clear tonight, and the weekend is looking pretty good. Tomorrow will feature a good supply of sunshine with a high in the mid to upper 60s. Then, on Sunday, we should be close to 70 degrees by afternoon with a mix of sun and clouds. A few showers could slip into the state late in the day or Sunday night, but most of the daytime hours should remain rain-free.

NEXT WEEK: A warm, moist airmass will park over Alabama for the week, but there will be little dynamic support for rain with the main storm track moving well to the north. We will mention some risk of showers Monday and Tuesday, but nothing really widespread or heavy. The latter half of the week will be mostly dry with only isolated showers. Expect daily highs in the 75 to 80 degree range.

THE LAND OF VOODOO: Still no sign of any late season winter weather issues for the rest of March, and the other good news is that we don’t see any severe weather setups over the next 15 days around here. Nice and quiet… see the Weather Xtreme video for more long range ideas and the graphics that go along with this discussion.

TIME CHANGE! Don’t forget we go back on Daylight Saving Time this weekend. We set our clocks ahead one hour before you go to bed Saturday night… the sunset time Sunday afternoon is 6:53 p.m. CDT. We will get that missed hour of sleep back in the fall.

WEATHER RADIO PROGRAMMING: Need help programming a weather radio? We will be at the Publix in Vestavia today from 10:30 until 1:00… come on by and see us if you need help.

WEATHER BRAINS: Don’t forget you can listen to our weekly 90 minute netcast anytime on the web, or on iTunes. This is the show all about weather featuring many familiar voices, including our meteorologists here at ABC 33/40.
