Looking like a beautiful day for Central Alabama as a surface high pressure system was located to our northeast. The surface high will move further east Sunday which will allow the return of moisture into the Lower Mississippi River Valley and bring rain into the forecast for Sunday night and Monday. Looking like Monday may be our best chance for rain.

Slightly cool this morning with many spots dropping into the upper 30s for lows. But with good sunshine we should see highs climb into the upper 60s by afternoon.

Sunday as we see the start to Daylight Savings Time once again will be a bit of a transition day as the surface high moves off to the east while the closed low just south of the Four Corners area pulls out across the Central Plains. As the upper low moves northeastward it will drag a front into the area on Monday. I think we’ll see increasing cloudiness on Sunday but remain essentially dry for the day. Rain chances increase into the overnight hours and Monday. Monday will probably be our best shot at some rain with the presence of the cold front.

The upper trough moves across the Great Lakes Tuesday exiting into the Atlantic on Wednesday. That leaves us pretty much under an upper ridge with the frontal boundary lingering and washing out across the area. The ridge gets strong Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, so we will have to keep isolated showers in the forecast. I think most of us remain dry as a summer-like weather pattern takes hold for the latter half of the upcoming week. Along with isolated shower possibilities comes some warmth. While I am forecasting highs in the upper 70s for the latter part of the upcoming week, I suspect that if this pattern comes true we will probably see highs in the lower 80s – maybe even middle 80s. But that is a tad far out into the future, so I’m being a little conservative with the highs.

Nice to note that the ECMWF and the GFS are in good agreement on the pattern. Looking further out into voodoo country, the pattern remains fairly active with the really warm looking sticking around on March 19th but another shot at rain comes our way on the 22nd. That strong upper ridge builds back across the eastern US by the 25th.
