Summer-Like Storms

| March 14, 2012 @ 4:30 pm

There is a warm and humid airmass in place across the state this afternoon. Instabilities have risen to 2,000-3,000 j/kg over northern Alabama. There is no cap in place. But there is very little wind shear to organize storms and no real trigger except for the heating.

There is a strong storm over southern Lawrence County that prompted a severe thunderstorm warning there. But the cells are weakening a bit as they move into northern Winston County.

The NWS has chosen to issue a significant weather alert for Winston County. The storm will affect areas around Addison with lightning, heavy rain, some gusty winds and perhaps some small hail.

The SPC has commented that there could be a few reports of damaging winds with stronger storms but don’t expect a weather watch because of the lack of organization of the storms that do form.
