Improving Weather For The Weekend

An all new edition of the ABC 33/40 Weather Xtreme video is available in the player on the right sidebar of the blog. You can subscribe to the Weather Xtreme video on iTunes by clicking here.

RAIN AT TIMES TODAY: It is a wet start to this Friday, with showers and storms in process across a pretty decent part of the state. Occasional showers and thunderstorms will continue today, with additional rain amounts of 1/2 to 1 inch likely. SPC has dropped the “slight risk” for our state as conditions for severe weather remain very marginal. If by chance the sun pops out later this morning, we could see a strong storm in spots this afternoon, but the shear and instability values are very limited. The high today will be in the 70s in most communities.

The rain will taper off this evening, as drier air begins to push into the state.

OUR WEEKEND: Looks pretty good. Other than a small risk of a stray shower, tomorrow will be partly sunny with a high in the mid 70s. Sunday will feature a sunny sky, lower humidity, and a high between 76 and 79 degrees.

NEXT WEEK AND BEYOND: The sky will stay sunny Monday and Tuesday; a few widely scattered showers could show up by late Wednesday and Thursday with a weak front, but there is very little upper support and it doesn’t look like a big rain event. And, still no sign of any frost or freeze threat for the next 15 days. See the Weather Xtreme video for complete long range graphics and details.

AT THE BEACH: Showers and storms are likely today along the coast from Panama City west to Gulf Shores… but tomorrow look for increasing amounts of sunshine and fewer showers, and then the weather looks sunny each day Sunday through Wednesday of next week. Highs will stay in the low 70s along the immediate coast, and the sea water temperature at the Dauphin Island Sea Lab early this morning was 71 degrees.

WEATHER BRAINS: Don’t forget you can listen to our weekly 90 minute netcast anytime on the web, or on iTunes. This is the show all about weather featuring many familiar voices, including our meteorologists here at ABC 33/40.
