Beautiful Spring Day

An all new edition of the ABC 33/40 Weather Xtreme video is available in the player on the right sidebar of the blog. You can subscribe to the Weather Xtreme video on iTunes by clicking here.

TONS O’ SUN: With a sunny sky, temperatures will warm to near 80 degrees across the northern half of Alabama today as dry air continues to cover the state. Tomorrow will be warmer with a high in the low to mid 80s as an upper ridge rebuilds across the Deep South.

WEDNESDAY/THURSDAY: Moisture levels will slowly rise on these days. With the upper ridge still firmly overhead Wednesday, I think we stay dry despite a weak front approaching from the north. On Thursday, we will mention just some risk of isolated showers and storms as the front drifts into North Alabama and fizzles out. The weather stays warm with highs in the low to mid 80s.

FRIDAY AND THE WEEKEND: Any showers on Friday should be isolated, but we will mention a better chance of scattered showers and thunderstorms on Saturday and Sunday as the ridge breaks down. I know there are a number of outdoor events going on this weekend, and there is no way of telling you today exactly when and where the rain will come, but there is no doubt we will have to dodge raindrops at time over the weekend. If you like the numbers game, the chance of any one spot getting wet on Saturday will be right in the 50 percent category, dropping to about 30 percent on Sunday. As the weekend gets closer we can better define these rain chances. The high both days will be 78-81 degrees with the sky generally cloudy. See the Weather Xtreme video for more details and all the graphics.

NEXT WEEK: Looks like a moist, unstable airmass will stay in place early in the week, so we will need to mention at least a chance of scattered showers and storms Monday and Tuesday with a high near 80.

AT THE BEACH: Beautiful weather this week from Panama City to Gulf Shores. Sunny mild days, clear nights. Highs in the 71-75 degree range on the immediate coast, and the sea water temperature is 73 degrees at the Dauphin Island Sea Lab. A few scattered showers and storms will show up this weekend along the coast, but there will be some sun as well.

LONG RANGE: While the 00Z GFS really didn’t show this, a number of other runs of the GFS and ECMWF have hinted at a cold snap for the eastern half of the nation during the first week in April. Just keep in mind there is a real possibility we will have at least one more run at a frost, or even a freeze, before we get into the warm season.

WEATHER BRAINS: Don’t forget you can listen to our weekly 90 minute netcast anytime on the web, or on iTunes. This is the show all about weather featuring many familiar voices, including our meteorologists here at ABC 33/40. We will record this week’s episode tonight at 8:30 p.m. CDT… tonight’s guest is the legendary Jack Hales, who recently retired after 46 years of Federal service including 36 years at the Storm Prediction center, formerly the National Severe Storms Forecast center.
