TO THE WEST: A well defined MCV (mesoscale convective vortex) is producing organized showers and storms over much of South Mississippi, where a number of large hail reports have been received this afternoon. A severe thunderstorm watch is in effect for that region, but here in Alabama things are quiet and warm. Some 3:00 temperatures included 85 at Muscle Shoals, 83 in Tuscaloosa, 82 in Birmingham, and 80 at Anniston.

THE ALABAMA STORY: We will bring in a chance of showers and thunderstorms on daily basis tomorrow through Thursday, as the upper low now over the four corners region of the Southwest U.S. moves slowly to the east and fills. On each day, we will probably have some strong storms, with potential for large hail and gusty winds. The tornado threat seems low, however, but we will keep a close eye on radar just in case. This is the first week of April, after all.

Our weather stays warm through mid-week with highs in the 80 to 83 degree range through Thursday.

FRIDAY AND THE WEEKEND: The weather turns cooler Friday; the GFS is now printing a high of only 73 degrees with only a slight risk of a stray shower. The Easter weekend promises to be delightful, with sunny pleasant days and fair cool nights. Highs will be in the 70s, with lows in the low 50s. Colder spots should reach the 40s both Saturday and Sunday morning, but for now we do not see any significant risk of frost.

NEXT WEEK AND BEYOND: A weak cold front approaching form the north might bring some risk of a shower or storm Monday of next week, but at this point the risk looks low. And, still no sign of any serious frost or freeze threat for the next two weeks on modeling. See the Weather Xtreme video for more long range details.

WEATHER BRAINS: Don’t forget you can listen to our weekly 90 minute netcast anytime on the web, or on iTunes.
