Calm Weather For Alabama

RIGHT NOW: Scroll down and you will see the rather random pattern of clouds across Alabama today; at midday about half the state was in bright sunshine, while the other half was under a cloud cover. But as I write this the lingering clouds are fading fast, and most of Alabama will be clear tonight.

Temperatures are in the 70s where the sun is shining, but where clouds linger most places are in the 60s. There is no rain on radar anywhere close to Alabama.

Tomorrow looks dry with a partly sunny sky and a high not too far from 80 degrees. We might mention a slight risk of a shower during the afternoon, but the chance of any one spot getting wet is only about one in ten.

OUR WEEKEND: Models continue to look drier. Still, we do expect a few periods of light rain on Saturday, but the rain won’t be continuous, and I seriously doubt if we even have any thunder around here. In fact, we might see a few rays of sunshine when we don’t have rain drops. The high Saturday should be in the mid 70s, and we are looking at rain amounts generally 1/4 inch or less now. Quite the chance from earlier in the week when it looked like Saturday would be just about a wash-out.

Sunday now looks like a very nice spring day. A good supply of sunshine with a high in the 70s.

NEXT WEEK: The weather stays very quiet. Sunny mild afternoons, clear cool nights Monday through Wednesday. A weak front might kick off a shower late in the week, but for now the chance of rain looks small. Needless to say, we can now clearly say April of 2012 will be a very quiet month for severe weather, something we can be thankful for after last year.

APRIL 27 DVD: As we get closer to the anniversary of the April 27 th tornadoes, ABC 33/40 is proud to offer our viewers a DVD of that historic day. I had a great time today visiting with the first graders at Alexandria Elementary School in Calhoun County, and with a big group of Alabama Power employees at their corporate HQ in downtown Birmingham. Be looking for those first graders on the Pepsi KIDCAM today at 5:00 on ABC 33/40 News. Look for the next Weather Xtreme video here by 7:00 a.m. tomorrow…
