Covering A Lot of Bases

This is a composite update trying to cover a number of items in order that you will not have to hunt through so many different posts. I will subtitle everything so you can quickly scroll past items you are not interested in.

ALABAMA NOW
Late this morning, very little going on around the state. The extensive rain and thunderstorm activity during the night and early this morning is gone. It even included one of those notorious gravity waves. There is a bit of light rain scattered across West/Central Alabama. Temperatures varied from the 40s over NW Alabama to the mild mid 60s over the SE. No change in our forecast thinking so far, although we will update that around 2:30 or so this afternoon. This includes the possibility of a dusting of snow as far south as Central Alabama. NWS/Huntsville mentions 1 to 2 inches possible for the extreme north.

MISSISSIPPI
Still above freezing over the entire state late this morning. NWS/Jackson has a Heavy Snow Warning for parts of Central Mississippi, mainly for tonight.

LOUISIANA/TEXAS
Almost no precipitation over Texas any more. Some areas around Ft. Worth received 8 inches or more of snow yesterday. A small area of showers in progress over North Louisiana.

ARKANSAS
Much of that state getting precipitation with rain down over the SW corner and mostly wintry precipitation elsewhere. As of 9:30 this morning, Mt. George, Arkansas in Yell County had almost 15 inches of snow on the ground (14.5 to be exact).

FURTHER NORTH
Wintry precipitation is in progress now from West Kentucky and Southern Illinois NE across the south two-thirds of Indiana, almost all of Ohio and into Western New York State.

FLORIDA
Strong thunderstorms continue over the north part of the Florida Peninsula. A Tornado Watch was in effect for that area. Showers were also widespread across the Carolinas.

EXTENT OF THIS STORM
It is going to have a troublesome effect over a widespread area. Late this morning, there was a wide variety of winter weather advisories or warnings all the way from North Louisiana, Arkansas and North Mississippi all the way to Maine. Let’s give you a few examples of what is expected and this is not all inclusive by any means.

MEMPHIS
A Winter Storm Warning until midnight. They expect 4 to 6 inches. The snow is expected to spread into the Memphis area this afternoon and continue all evening. Strong winds are also possible.

MIDDLE TENNESSEE INCLUDING NASHVILLE
A Winter Storm Warning from 6:00 this evening until noon Saturday. By midnight, most of Middle Tennessee and the Cumberland Plateau will have all snow which will continue through the night into Saturday morning. 3 to 5 inch accumulations expected in the Nashville area.

LOUISVILLE
Snow will spread across the area today, continuing tonight and taper off to flurries Saturday afternoon. The heaviest snow should occur tonight, mainly between 8:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. Saturday morning. Total accumulations 8 to 12 inches. A Winter Storm Warning is in effect.
