A Late Evening Update
Snow was increasing over Northwest Alabama tonight.
At 11 p.m., light snow was over Colbert, Franklin, Lamar, Fayette and Marion Counties. Slightly heavier snow was north of Hamilton moving into Fayette County.
31F at Haleyville in Winston County with light snow. Light snow was also reported at Muscle Shoals, Decatur and Huntsville.
An upper low is over Northeast Mississippi. Colder air aloft is allowing for some weak instability and producing the snow showers. These snow showers will continue through the overnight, exiting eastern sections dueing the morning.
Back to the west, radars over Mississippi were showing snowfall increasing in coverage and intensity west of Columbus. This activity will rotate into West Central Alabama after midnight.
One inch or more of snow will fall north of US-278. Between US-278 and I-20, up to an inch may fall.
Chec road conditions before traveling later tonight and early Saturday. No major road problems are anticipated at this time, but with the convective nature of this snowfall, some areas could pick up more snowfall in a short period.
