Snow picking up a little

With the rate of cold air moving in having slowed down, some precipitation is starting to show up in central Alabama. It may start out as a mixture of rain, sleet, and snow, but with temps in the 20s just a few hundred feet off the ground, it should be all snow quickly.

An area of heavier snow has moved over Chilton and Coosa counties in the past hour, and snow seems to be increasing in the southern suburbs of BHM, with snow reported in Hoover and Vestavia.

Temperatures aloft are very cold, so the air is a little unstable. We may see some heavy snow showers in spots, but some places in central Alabama may only see a dusting, especially east of I-65. Amounts south of US-278 may only average 1/2″.

We are not in the heavy precipitation sector of this storm system, and unless we get some convection going soon, we may not get there.
