Calm Weather For Alabama

| June 15, 2012 @ 3:13 pm

**No afternoon Weather Xtreme video today… we will be going on a vacation schedule; one video per day through Sunday June 24; we will pick back up the two a day schedule on Monday June 25**

RADAR CHECK: Just a few small, isolated showers are on radar this afternoon in the broad area over East Alabama from Ashland south to Phenix City. We do note a big thunderstorm cluster over Mobile Bay, but a large part of our state is rain-free this afternoon. Temperatures are generally in the mid to upper 80s, right at average levels for mid-June.

OUR WEEKEND: The weather looks generally warm and dry. Any showers should be almost impossible to find tomorrow and Sunday; expect a good supply of sunshine both days with a high in the upper 80s.

NEXT WEEK: The quiet weather continues for at least the first half of the week; it looks like any showers will be few and far between Monday through Wednesday. Heat levels slowly rise, with low 90s possible by Wednesday. Some evidence we might see an increase in the number of showers and storms toward the end of the week with lowering heights.

AT THE BEACH: Expect about 8 to 10 hours of sunshine each day along the Gulf Coast from Panama City west to Gulf Shores through early next week with just a few scattered showers and storms. Highs will be in the upper 80s, and the sea water temperature this afternoon at the Dauphin Island Sea Lab is 82 degrees.

TROPICS: The GFS continues to show some tropical development over the far Southwest Gulf of Mexico in 5 to 7 days… with a drift toward the Mexican coast, south of Brownsville, Texas. We will keep an eye on things there; otherwise the Atlantic basin is quiet.

WEATHER BRAINS: Don’t forget you can listen to our weekly 90 minute netcast anytime on the web, or on iTunes. This is the show all about weather featuring many familiar voices, including our meteorologists here at ABC 33/40.

I will be getting off the grid a bit; Brian Peters will be covering the daily Weather Xtreme video chores until I get back in the saddle on June 25. Enjoy the weekend!
