Warm and Dry Look to our Weather

The overall weather pattern for Alabama is going from unsettled to heavily sedated with the establishment of an upper ridge and more stable conditions across the area. We are dealing with a wedge pattern this morning with a surface high centered over the Mid-Atlantic Coast nosing in across the Southeast US. This has set up an interesting temperature gradient from 75 at Tuscaloosa to 65 at Anniston to 59 just east of Atlanta. With the easterly flow, the atmosphere is drying out and becoming more stable so it looks like we are going to stay essentially dry for the next 5 to 7 days.

The upper ridge becomes more established over the next couple of days and builds northward as the westerlies remain well to our north. So look for warm weather with highs 87 to 90 for much of the next 7 days with lows in the 60s.

The ridge begins to breakdown in the Thursday-Friday time frame. This does not really change our weather pattern much but does open the door to the approach of a cold front from the north and northwest. The GFS does not suggest it will get any further than the Tennessee River Valley, but it could offer us some small chance for showers as we head into the weekend. The GFS is also flirting with some tropical mischief in the Southwest Gulf of Mexico. All indications are, if this does some true, that a weak tropical system would move into Mexico. But we are verging on voodoo country, so we’ll see what future model runs do with that solution.

Looking out into week 2, the troughiness over the eastern US remains will us through late June, but by the first of July the upper ridge is back. So right now, it looks like a fairly mundane weather pattern for us for the foreseeable future.
